How We'll Collaborate

How I Work (At a Glance)

I structure engagements so editorial strategy, narrative architecture, and writing execution stay aligned without slowing production. I work from clearly defined scopes, scheduled working sessions, and documented next steps to ensure clarity and momentum. I don’t manage day-to-day production logistics unless that is explicitly included in scope. But I do attempt to ensure editorial coherence, narrative alignment, and delivery against agreed timelines. This approach allows me to move quickly without introducing assumptions, rework, or scope confusion.

The sections below outline this collaborative process in detail and explain how responsibilities, scope, and working rhythm are defined across an engagement.

Importance of Structured Collaborations

I'm an accomplished Private Wealth Editorial Strategist who develops client education and offers strategic storytelling for private wealth teams and related financial services environments.

I understand the value of a well-defined collaboration structure. It's this structure that prevents misunderstandings, missed deadlines, budget overruns, invoicing disputes, and compliance errors. This organized process can ensure a mutually beneficial collaboration.

I value collaborations that are clear, efficient, and professionally grounded. Structure supports quality, protects timelines, and keeps decision-making straightforward for everyone involved.

These policies reflect how I’ve operated as an external consultant for many years, and they align with evolving independent contractor standards, including the ABC test (or some version of the ABC test) used in many states to determine who is a genuine independent contractor.

For me, they are keys to our successful collaboration, no matter what project type we undertake. These parameters define our project from the concept to its execution.

Independent Consulting Framework

I operate under Thrive Media, Inc. as an incorporated consultant. The Financial Content Architect is a division of Thrive Media, Inc.

I offer my solutions to multiple clients simultaneously, including those in the same sector or industry, under that corporation. I do not sign non-compete agreements.

My primary point of contact is a senior decision-maker with authority over scope and approvals.

This independent consultant framework and work process below should ensure engagements that comply with existing state and federal laws for independent contractors operating as incorporated business consultants. It's meant to protect both me and my clients.

Since I’m not a lawyer, your organization should confirm any independent contractor requirements with counsel and relevant labor agencies.

Here's an overview of my business framework.

Established Independent Business Model

As the managing principal of Thrive Media, I operate as an independent consultant. Our initial discussion focuses on alignment: your objectives, audience, constraints, timeline, and scope. If we are aligned, we define a clear engagement structure that supports your editorial or narrative infrastructure goals and supports my work through my business.

My role is one of an independent consultant, not a temporary employee, and my success depends directly on delivering valuable solutions and results for clients through my enterprise. So, our initial conversation is not just about identifying your needs but also about establishing the parameters of our professional relationship, and emphasizing the opportunity for mutual advantages of a thought partnership.

Platform-Based Engagements and Corporate Capacity

When I collaborate with editorial platforms or marketplaces, or similar intermediaries (including content platforms used by enterprise brands), I do so in my capacity as an incorporated independent contractor operating through Thrive Media, Inc.

Even where a platform requires registration, credentialing, or assignment documentation under my personal name, all work is performed on behalf of my corporation. Any forms, attestations, acknowledgments, or compliance declarations I execute—including platform-specific documents—are executed in a representative capacity for Thrive Media, Inc.

Accordingly, all compensation is remitted to my corporation via its designated business payment channels, including corporate ACH or approved money service accounts. Nothing in a platform’s onboarding process, standard terms of service, or assignment workflow should be interpreted as creating an individual employment relationship or altering my status as an incorporated independent contractor.

Investment and Scope

After the introductory call described under "Workflow Process," we'll outline scope and fees, confirm responsibilities on for both parties, and document the working plan, which should ensure clarity and mutual benefit. I will invoice you for any fees we agree upon through my corporation, and I will accept payment via its business bank account or other payment processor.

Engagement Terms

Whether it's a one-off writing or consulting project or a longer-term engagement, we define the scope and duration of our engagement in a formal contract. We will only work under a fully executed contract between your organization and my corporation, as defined further below. Since I'm only incorporated in my state, if we use Thrive Media, Inc.'s agreement, our engagement agreement will be governed by the laws of my state.

Client and Consultant Autonomy

I bring my expertise to your organization as an independent consultant, without expecting guaranteed work from you. I work during the hours and from a remote location determined by me using tools and equipment I own and control. I rarely travel to client offices, but when I do, I require compensation for that travel and in office time.

The detailed scope of work in our engagement agreement will further outline my independent work process while honoring mutual accountability. It also will articulate my intent to remain an independent contractor as defined by federal law. Thus, the nature and control remain collaborative, respecting our mutual organizational autonomy.

Specialized Services

My offerings are customized to the specific narrative or editorial strategic challenges you identify. Because you may not have professionals on staff with my unique skills, you've determined a need for my consultant expertise. But my services aren't integral to your day-to-day operations.

Specialized Knowledge

I'm a doctoral researcher with a master's in corporate communications and an award-winning multi-skilled journalist who's been an independent communications consultant for over 25 years. I bring a distinctive blend of scholarly rigor, professional skills and creative initiative to every project. That includes advanced analytical, problem-solving, strategic communications, and project management skills. The statement of work or other terms of our formal engagement agreement will outline many of those.

Workflow Process

If you’re interested in private wealth editorial strategy or affluent-client education for your wealth brand, we begin with a brief email exchange and a 30–45 minute introductory call. This step confirms fit and clarifies audience, objectives, scope, timeline, and budget. Strategy work begins after scope is agreed and the engagement is in place.

Senior or Managing Editors at respected publications or reputable finance brands may email a proposed assignment, and we’ll proceed from there.

Strategic Storytelling or Journalism

If your need is an assignment-based editorial deliverable, before I begin any assignment, we confirm scope, statement of work, timeline, fees, and review steps. This includes any requested outline work, planning calls, or draft review cycles. Terms are confirmed in writing so expectations are clear on both sides.

We establish these terms together to gain a mutually beneficial agreement about the solution you want me to provide. Again, we usually conduct this process by email.

Narrative or Editorial Strategy Consulting

If you want me to help you solve a narrative infrastructure challenge related to your target wealth audience, including related editorial strategy planning, after our introductory call, we would start our work together with paid consulting time.

If you need facilitated ideation or editorial planning, we scope that as paid consulting time.

Consulting time is billed at a two-hour minimum. Afterward, I provide a short written summary of key recommendations and next steps. Comprehensive strategy requires a a Discovery Project.

Discovery Project

If we agree a much more in-depth paid discovery project (or narrative infrastructure assessment) is ideal, we establish a written, task-oriented scope for the project. I then provide you with a working quote and an invoice for prepayment in full.

Once we complete the discovery project (or narrative infrastructure assessment), I generate a project blueprint or other decision-ready asset exclusive to your organization that's designed to meet your specific narrative or editorial strategy objectives.

After you receive the decision-ready asset, if we agree I should continue into implementation, I provide a working quote for the next phase. Otherwise, you can execute the work in-house or engage another consultant.

Otherwise, you will have a strategic narrative asset document you can use to execute your project in-house or to hire another consultant for that work.

Contracts and Payment

Before beginning any work on whatever solution you choose, we execute a detailed agreement between your organization and my corporation, Thrive Media, Inc., including engagements initiated or facilitated through third-party content platforms.

After I review the contract, if I request no changes, I sign the document and get it back to you quickly so we can begin work. If the contract contains terms that require clarification, I may have it reviewed by legal professionals.

Compensation

Clients compensate me for all work I do. That includes outlines, and preliminary or final drafts of written content clients decide not to publish. Fees may be by the word or project depending on project type, scope, length, and volume of work requested from me by your organization. I may require retainers or payment schedules for larger projects.

Pre-engagement discussions or work constitutes consulting time. This includes any work before formal contract or written agreement related to any solutions offered here. Strategic conversations with your editorial, marketing, or wealth leadership team, reviews of relevant materials, and interviews with firm leaders are billable consulting time.

For pre-engagement work, I invoice for a minimum of two hours at my regular consulting rate, regardless of verbal agreements. Most clients find it more efficient to sign a written engagement agreement before beginning any work, which incorporates a maximum number of monthly hours for phone and email consulting time.

My fees reflect scope, complexity, and the level of strategic and research rigor required.

All narrative strategy assets or large volume editorial engagements require prepayment in full by bank ACH. I do not extend credit to private non-media organizations. I don't start work until payment clears Thrive Media's corporate bank account. Clients pay all ACH and transfer fees.

Fees and payment terms are established in a written contract between your organization and Thrive Media Inc. to prevent payment disputes. Because payment compensates for time already reserved and invested, fees are nonrefundable.

Right to Opt Out

As an incorporated consultant, I'm not entirely dependent on any single organization for work. It's possible that during our initial interactions, we may find that we're not the right fit for each other. So, both parties reserve the right, in writing, to decline further engagement at any point before any compensable work starts.

Content Integrity and Compliance

I guarantee delivery of original content and affirm the use of ethical editorial support systems, including generative AI tools, in alignment with each client’s compliance review requirements and my role as an independent contractor.

This ensures that all my deliverables reflect transparent human authorship and adhere to your organization’s regulatory and ethical standards.

While I may use advanced editorial technologies to improve accuracy and efficiency, I never delegate the creative or analytical judgment that defines my work to those tools or to others.

Every narrative strategy consulting engagement and storytelling project I undertake reflects my professional integrity, intellectual rigor, and full accountability.

Final Considerations

The policies and procedures identified here may not include all those necessary for Thrive Media, Inc. to engage with a specific organization.

Written contracts supersede the policies on this page and any verbal (or email) agreements. These policies also may change or get expanded without notice, and I will implement those changes in writing in client relationships with The Financial Content Architect.

If this engagement structure aligns with how your organization works, contact me to discuss scope and fit.
